Today marks 1 year in our new home. We're pretty settled.Sometimes I look around, think about the things I'd like to change.Especially after I do the human thing.Admire someone else's space. And wish, and want. For some reason it happens. It starts at an early age.My four year old announced,"Mom, I wish I was Chelsea.""Why?????""Because I like her van better." Seriously??She's too young to start on that.
I'm. too old to start on that.If my mom ever heard me complain or compare. She'd remind me.To be thankful. To be grateful. I don't drive a new car.Its a '99 Dodge Grand Caravan. The hood is pink thanks to the sun.The body is red.Every week my husband takes me out on a date in that van.Sometimes we run into this guy over and over again. He's a Friday night regular at Subway. He's impressed with our weekly dates.Driving around town.Seeing all the new rigs.Sometimes. I want.But.Then...no weekly dates. Babysitters aren't cheap.
I'm going on one of those dates tonight. Can't wait.
Tonight I'm going to surprise Jeff.A thank you.For taking care of us.For keeping us comfortable. For giving us a good life.
We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures. ~Thornton Wilder
♥
this is one of the reasons I just love who you are :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is always a breath of fresh air; a reminder of what's important in life.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. I look forward to new posts from you. They get me thinking about my own life and the things I can be doing to improve myself. Someday, I hope to be the kind of wife, mother, and disciple you are.
ReplyDeleteKim, Wonderful post. And I hear you on how expensive it is to get a babysitter for 4 kids! But, in the end...Friday night date nights are much more important than shiny new vans. Which, by the way we drive the same type of van. Mine might be a 2000 though. Can't remember. It is looking old too. Sometimes people comment on it. You know what? I don't care. We have had a lot of good times with our trusty van and it hauls my boys to sports practices, play dates, scouts, the Y for family time and best of all to church. It makes its way to visit family and all kinds of weekend road trips. If I had a new van, I would just be worried about boys getting in there with muddy cleats and grass-stained jerseys. I'll keep my van and its memories and my dates with my hubby as long as possible. You are great Kim. Sorry to go on so long!! :)
ReplyDeleteUm, do you have a car payment? Shout praises if you don't! And I like your van.. it's how I know it's YOU coming down the road, so I can wave and say hello from one minivan to another! That's what I love about you, you are grounded, beautiful and heart-full. Shine on.
