I will be introducing the…
Summer
Notebook
Full of
-household chore charts
-computer cash
-prizes to be won
-places to go
-individual goals
-family goals
-brain time activities
The kids are asleep, I'm still preparing.
They won't like all my ideas.
I don't blame them.
But they won't be board and they won't be learning how to waste time.
There will be fun times.
I'll try not to act like an army drill sergeant.
Wish me Luck!

Such a good idea! Wanna just copy everything and I'll come pick one up too? ;) (just kidding!)
ReplyDeleteSpill more! I need more info on some of those ideas! You are right up my alley as I have been planning and thinking too. Maybe I will have to post some of my ideas.
ReplyDeleteWill you share what chores you list for your kids to do? I have a hard time finding age appropriate chores that will fill the entire week! Seems like they're done on the first day with stuff they can do. Maybe i underestimate them.....what's on your list?
ReplyDeleteThis summer I'm going to be doing some teaching chores with them. The oldest 3 are going to do laundry. I'm going to have to help but hopefully by the end of summer they can do it on their own.
ReplyDeleteSame thing with making simple simple meals.
The hardest thing for me is getting them excited about doing all that I'd like them to do.
So far they are ECSTATIC about the raffle I'm going to do the 11th and 22nd of every month.
All post more about my plan later. I'm still trying to fine tune it and may have to drop some stuff.
One of things I will say is
that basically there are 3 different levels of chores they have to do and then I also give them the option of even more jobs for extra $$$$$. The more they do the more rewards.
I've spent a ton of time on all of it. I hope it works. I know there will be lots of room for improvement, but I need a plan.
I am IMPRESSED! Good Job! I love to hear of parents EXPECTING something from their kids - even the little ones- during the summer, not just what they are going to give them, do with them or take them to. I was able to "have a plan" for six consecutive summers... and I think the kids turned out pretty good! :) I like the fact that you have already allowed yourself the reality of "they may not like them all" - and just go with it! Good for you! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI keep forgeting to share my idea with you. The other day when you were talking about trying to be better, I was thinking you should come up with some way for the kids to earn a trip to silverwood. Have you guys ever gone there? Just a thought
ReplyDeleteI'm doing the same thing this summer and remarkably the kids are responding well to it. Kids thrive on structure. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteKim, I am same the way. I need my kids to learn to work and do chores during the summer. I use "my reward board". Check it out at www.myrewardboard.com there is a 2 week free trial. My kids can't wait to open it up every morning and get to work. It has been a life saver!
ReplyDeletekids want structure, so I think this is a good idea, even if there is wailing!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I am really impressed and inspired. I want to hear more about this. Will you give us some more of this scoop?
ReplyDeleteGood idea!
ReplyDeleteSummer should be the perfect balance between lazy and productive!
You sound so organzied.
ReplyDeleteWow your ideas are SO great!!
I can't wait to see how it all turns out!!
Hi there, Kimi! You don't know me, and I've debated all day about whether or not to post a comment on your blog...I hope it's not too weird to hear from a random stranger!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I was Googling for an image of the scriptures for a family home evening lesson, and it took me to your blog. Normally if that happens, I just close the window without reading anything, but for some reason I found myself deeply engrossed in your blog. It made me laugh and cry. All your hobbies, from dancing to being the best mother you can...well...lets just say I think you sound like an absolutely delightful lady, whom I'd love to correspond with if you feel so inclined. My e-mail address is annaliahona@gmail.com. My blog is strawberrymom.blogspot.com.
Have a wonderful evening!
