My photo
Every morning I wake up with a head full of things to do. I scramble around trying to put them in lists of importance all while trying to keep the peace within my little brood (trying to recall everything I've learned and read about parenting at the same time.) I love being a wife and the quirks that come with having my man forever. I love to be creative and thrive on crossing off my to do list. I strive to find balance and put first things first which brings me PEACE & JOY and allows me to sleep so much easier when I do. I think that one of the secrets to being HAPPY in life is to find that balance. I'm learning how to be kinder to myself and learning patience in progress. Everyday, through the thick and thin of life I'm trying to turn my heart towards heaven and remember what's really important.Oh, and I love to eat, so much so that I love to exercise too.

Random Rundown

I really have so much to say and so I think that I get paralyzed by that. I feel like I have about 30 loads of laundry in my head and I don't even want to tackle it but don't quite know where to start. I've felt like this for sometime and its probably why I haven't posted. Thankfully, its not because of my laundry, its actually very manageable right now. So I suppose this post will probably be random.

: I love Jeff. For date night we try to do things that take more thought than going to a movie or dinner. We get free movie tickets from Jeff's work so its a fun treat to go every once in awhile but we really love to play outside. We keep waiting for this crazy weather to warm up. We might be waiting until JULY!!! We went out the other night and intended on going disc golfing but it was way too windy and a bit too chilly. We decided, instead to go to Costco. I know, really exciting date. But we had a $50 kick back to spend and so that made it little more exciting. Plus, we're coming up on the first of year of actually having a Costco card and I go a lot but Jeff doesn't. So anyway. We saw this girl's husband there (with his two adorable kiddos) and had fun visiting with him. Then we went to the produce section (my favorite) to get sugar snap peas, and strawberries- a staple at my house. I think the only reason I want to renew is so I can by those peas. For $5 you can get a huge bag. Anyway, I really have a point to this silly Costco visit. We decided to eat dinner at the food court place. Jeff loves the salad. Which by the way has almost 800 calories in it - FYI. Sitting next to us were 4, 18 year old kids that were dressed like they were going to Prom. One of them leaned over and said hi and was actually a boy that I taught in Primary when Jeff and I were first married. We found out that they were on some kind of dating game adventure and had spent the day together and that the date was nearing to and end with a fabulous Costco sausage dog. He went back to his meal and then strangely enough they all kept staring at Jeff and talking about something. Suddenly he leaned over again and said, "Will you do us a favor? Will you take a picture with us?
(Can you see the resemblance even with the that silly head band on his head?) You look like Matt Hasselbeck!" Jeff gets this all the time, especially when he has the right grow out. It was so funny. It would have been nice to have Mr. Hasselbeck's salary. I would have bought a couple more things at Costco!!

We had a good time and it always feels so good to get out with my sweetheart. When we got home he came around to open my door. I jumped out, wrapped my arms around him, and sparks literally flew when I smooched his lips!! I shocked him. It wasn't a little zap either. We both heard it and felt it in our teeth. We laughed so hard. Corniness aside I think although we're closing in on 10 years together as of May 24th, "the sparks" keep happening. This makes me very happy and I feel very blessed to have a husband that is crazy about me. I'm realizing more and more how much we compliment each other. I love that he wants to be organized and that he isn't lazy. He works so hard to provide for me, and is constantly working toward a better Jeff. I've never felt like he holds me back in anyway. He just sold a titanium bike frame that he bought almost 15 years ago . I love ebay!!! We're a little richer. I'm thinking we might get a new computer. The C drive on this thing is maxed and the ram is SSSSSLLLLLOOOOWWW. I have to tell on him in one other way. He amazes me with his little feats of skill. The other night we walked out of a Grease. ( Our friend was in a play and he played Danny Zuko.)
We were with our friends and it was dark outside. We get to the stairs and Jeff hopped on the handrail and slid down about half way and then Oops, he biffed it. I burst out laughing and right about the time I was laughing our friend Kevin ran his hand over a skateboard stopper thing. OUCH!!! Needless to say, Jeff has a nice bruise on his der·ri·ère!! He also ripped his new jeans. Silly boy!!! Gotta love him!!

:I've been able to visit and help my mom more, thanks to a dear friend in my ward. Through her tears she asked me if I would drop off my kids once a week so I could spend more time with my mom. SO SWEET! It is difficult for me to rely on others to watch my kids. Its a trust issue too. I am very comfortable with Janene though. Her husband is the Bishop in our ward. Sweet people. Love them so much. My mom is doing well. She has completely lost all of her facial hair and doesn't feel very attractive. I was running behind last week on the day I was supposed to see her. I had three day hair, no makeup and I was wearing my ugliest chore clothes. She told me to just come out, and that I'd fit right in. Its so difficult for me to go anywhere without makeup. I'm getting better but seriously, its pretty bad that I put off going to see my own mother just because I haven't beautified myself for the day. I think I would learn a lot about myself if I were in her shoes. I think I might learn what I'm really made of. She told me that she sometimes wished that everyone could lose their hair for a week. I'll be the first to admit that I would be in tears the whole week!

:I've been getting more Mother's Paychecks!
-Mr. E, my kindergartener, came home from school and informed me that one of the girls in his class says, "oh my G_ _ !" all the time. He said that he talked to her about it and told her that it wasn't a nice thing to say. He then told her that she should say something like Oh my G and that it would sound much better. I asked him if he taught her in a nice way and he assured me that he did. I was beaming when he told me and it made me shed a little tear.

-I'm very serious about family home evening. We have it every week but they're aren't always what I hope they could be. Sometimes I'm not very prepared and sometimes I'm prepared my kids aren't prepared to listen. I know its not in vain. I know there will be many rewards for our obedience and patience. I received a small glimpse of those rewards when I was at at Scout meeting. (I was just recently called to be a den mother.) One of the other leaders is also a Primary Teacher and has combined D's class with his own on occasion. During the meeting he told me that for D's age he knows more about the gospel than any other kid that he knows. I was taken back, and guess what?... I cried. surprise!! I thanked him for telling me and told him that I hoped that he was understanding the gospel in his heart too. He assured me that his answers were from D's heart and that he wasn't just giving pat answers. My Heart BURST with pride, love, happiness. I was a ball of emotions. All the crazy FHE's, the "fun" hours of sacrament meeting. He's getting it. I was a Happy Mommy!!!

-Miss W and the boys have been trying so hard to be obediant. When I ask them to do something they say, "Yes Mom!!!! I LOVE IT. Miss W has been especially good at this. The best thing is there hasn't been any spanking at my house for a very long long time. I decided a long time ago that spanking doesn't really teach a child HOW to behave. Our homes are training centers for how we will interact as adults. I want my kids to have the skills to deal with their emotions as well as others. Plus, spanking is coercive and it leaves me with little power in the long run. I also admittedly, have a bad bad temper and I don't trust myself.

-And Miss A. My baby. She's potty training all because she wants to and its been a breeze. Neither one of us has been in tears over it. Yea!! My other three tested my patience.

: I bought these beauties yesterday. I've been trying not to splurge lately. It takes great skill to walk into Target and tell myself that I DON'T NEED ANYTHING. I feel so greedy when I go into that store. There is soooooooo much I want. Yet, I had a very difficult time resisting these very cute heels. I was noticing that the black heels I wore last week are getting pretty tattered. And I also thought about that bike frame Jeff just sold. I haven't showed him yet though. I'm waiting until I look really cute on Sunday. He'll appreciate them more then.
Oh!!! and in the mail today I got my Downeast Catalog. Not good. I LOVE these!

There are still lots of "loads" in my head but I've really got to get off this computer and exercise so I can wear one of these beauties in a month or three when it WARMS UP! Maybe on a date.

If you read this far, congrats, this was one LOOOOOONG post. So to reward you for your time- Leave a comment by Thursday, May 1st, midnight and I will reward a lucky someone with TWO TICKETS TO REGAL CINEMA. Have a wonderful day!

  1. I love the randomness of this post. I feel the same way. There is so much that I am feeling and want to say, but never enough time to write it all down.

I absolutely love that you and Jeff went on a date to Costco. I LOVE that place, and I have to agree with you on the strawberries. By far, the best around! I've never seen the bag of sugar snap peas. I love those things too, so I'll have to pick some up next time.

Now that I see the two pictures together, I totally see what you mean. Jeff does look like Matt Hasselbeck! Too funny. I love that those boys were adventurous enough to ask for a picture ;)

Good for Mr. E for standing up for what was right! Of course, after meeting your kids the other day, I am not at all surprised! They are strong, bright and sweet children. You are doing SUCH a good job Kim!

I bet D's teachers at church LOVE having him in class. Isn't it so fulfilling to watch our children grow with testimonies in their hearts?

Those shoes...oh those shoes! Gorgeous! I too feel very greedy when I walk into Target.

I just saw the new suits on Downeast. I LOVE the black halter style. I need one...right?

Oh yeah, one more thing...count me in for your little drawing!

Holy crow...talk about a post within a post!

  2. You are hilarious! The randomness in this post was like stepping into my own mind....all over the place, but filled with important thoughts and feelings.

I'm so happy that you and Jeff are this amazingly happy couple. A good marriage is a blessing and since it is a foundation of our homes and families it is worth all the effort it takes to make it good and keep it spicy! :)

    The heels are gorgeous!

LOVED your comment about spanking being just coercive and not very powerful....Time Out for Women changed me too!

Love you, Kim! You are genuine and wonderful.

  3. I love "Costco dates" too! Just fun to walk around and dream of everything you would love to buy for your house and then buy the basics, eat dinner and leave happy.

I also think your "Mother's paychecks" are wonderful. I have never heard it put that way, but that's really what they are. I had to read your other 2 and they were so great. What a good mom you are teaching and enforcing respect--so many children don't get that anymore. I also teared up at the note your little guy wrote for you after a hard day. Aren't children so loving? Happy day! :)

  4. I love random posts. They are true journaling.

We are counseled to journal and people can criticize bloggers all they want but it is a great way to journal.

Thanks for sharing your "random" thoughts.

  5. Costco dates are the best! I cannot take my husband there when they have samples though because he wants everthing and there goes the grocery budget.

With the bald head Jeff does look like Matt Hasselbeck.

I like these random catch up posts. It is always nice to hear what you have been up to.

  7. Holy crap, Jeff does look like Hasselbeck! And I will bet cash money that this weekend, there will actually be kids who go to Costco for dinner. They will also be at the mall.

I mean, what starts off a more elegant night then going to get a dog and a coke, followed by a trip to the Carmelcorn shop at the mall?

    To a teen...nothing.

  8. For the record I did not biff it. My nice smooth ride down the rail did abruptly come to an end but I hopped off and ran it out on the stairs thinking I was going to be a bloody mess. Just a bruise and nice air conditioned pants though.
Also I plan to have a low cost autograph session sometime if anyone is interested.
    Jeff
