Every morning I wake up with a head full of things to do. I scramble around trying to put them in lists of importance all while trying to keep the peace within my little brood (trying to recall everything I've learned and read about parenting at the same time.) I love being a wife and the quirks that come with having my man forever. I love to be creative and thrive on crossing off my to do list. I strive to find balance and put first things first which brings me PEACE & JOY and allows me to sleep so much easier when I do. I think that one of the secrets to being HAPPY in life is to find that balance. I'm learning how to be kinder to myself and learning patience in progress. Everyday, through the thick and thin of life I'm trying to turn my heart towards heaven and remember what's really important.Oh, and I love to eat, so much so that I love to exercise too.

No antenna = A Tune up in Mothering

Our house is for sale and at the moment is not really our home anymore. Of coarse we reside here. We take showers here and dirty up the kitchen everyday, but most of our stuff is packed away and we don't live in it like we did before the for sale sign was stuck into our yard. Its been good and bad. The state of our house if finally where I've always wanted it to be. All the honey dos are done and most of the clutter is gone. Its a great feeling to sit back and relax a little. I say a little because I don't think I could ever RELAX. I wish. That's why I haven't started Twilight. I know that I can't sit and read 3 books in a week and enjoy it while everything around me comes undone. Sometimes I wish I could but I really don't think its in my nature. You should see me on bed rest. I'm a husband's worst nightmare! Anyway back to the point of this post. We have tried to make this home look like a model home. So, the antenna that was thrown on top of the roof just had to go. We don't have cable so we're without the 5 channels that I learned to depend on during the hours of 9:00 am to 11:00 am and 3:00pm to 6:00pm.
Its actually quite funny because I've being meaning to set up some kind of system with the kids that limits the amount of television they are allowed to watch. Now I don't have to come up with pop cycle sticks in a jar or some other nifty way to track the hours they spend glued to the tube. I hate it when they spend too much time watching TV but at the same time there's no fighting when they're glued to Dragon Tales. Its so convenient to sit them in front of the tube and blog...I mean clean the house. Its time for me to spend more time with them now that the house is fixed up and not rely on the TV so much. Miss W and I laid on my bed the other day and read two books together. When we were done I tickled her back and made up songs about how much I loved her and how beautiful she was inside and out. While I was singing she sat up and said "I yuv you mommy!" She wrapped her little arms around my neck and squeezed. It was one of those moments that strengthened my little girl's self worth as well as her character. It did more for her than any television show could ever do. I don't know if we'll ever have television again. I won't get cable or satellite I'd rather spend the money in savings and I don't have enough discipline to keep myself from watching HGTV 24/7. Jeff and I were looking forward to the new season of TV shows but I know that we really don't NEED all the garbage that tends to find its way into everything we watch. PLUS we'll actually get to talk and spend some quality time together. It'll be good. I'm happy that the antenna had to go. Its made me get my priorities in line, I don't know if I could lose the internet though. The TV was one hurdle, the internet is the next. I'll have to use my nifty ideas to control computer time.

  1. We gave up tv about 8 years ago, and before that, I could tell you what was on any time slot of the day. You'll be surprised what fills your time when you don't spend it in front of the tv. Don't be afraid to give it up, only good things will come of it!

  2. This is so interesting because I just cancelled DISH last Friday, or maybe the Friday before. Anyway, it has been sad, (I know all my favs are starting up...biggest loser, survivor, 24, amazing race....)but I know it is best. We have done this a few times in our last 8 years of marriage. Have TV for a year, then not for a year...etc. So I have to say great job because i know it is hard but so wonderful as well. Oh, and I even gave away our 2nd tv and vcr so that we would only have 1 in the house to watch movies every now and then.

  3. Great idea Kimi...we don't watch a lot of tv either. We only have the three or four basic channels and I'll watch some days when I run on my treadmill. However, I hope you will not be abandoning 24 in January! That's one show I do watch and am not willing to give up! Yes, Children, books and housework can definitely fill my time more wisely!
