- Every morning I wake up with a head full of things to do. I scramble around trying to put them in lists of importance all while trying to keep the peace within my little brood (trying to recall everything I've learned and read about parenting at the same time.) I love being a wife and the quirks that come with having my man forever. I love to be creative and thrive on crossing off my to do list. I strive to find balance and put first things first which brings me PEACE & JOY and allows me to sleep so much easier when I do. I think that one of the secrets to being HAPPY in life is to find that balance. I'm learning how to be kinder to myself and learning patience in progress. Everyday, through the thick and thin of life I'm trying to turn my heart towards heaven and remember what's really important.Oh, and I love to eat, so much so that I love to exercise too.

Like spraying water from a fire house right at my kids
I feel very strongly about the necessity for weekly FHEs. However, my sister informed me that my approach is like spraying water from a fire house right at my kids. As a mother I feel this overwhelming urgency to teach and prepare my children for the future of this world . A world that is saturated with immorality, and an overwhelming lack of values, as well as a common place for instant gratification. So.... on Monday, I tried to teach about how we can get caught in a trap if we're not careful. I gave an example of a mouse trap and how the treat on the trap looks good to the mouse but that there's a bad consequence for trying to get the treat. So I asked my 7, 5, and 3 year old what kind of traps are out there that can get us and my 7 year old said, "Tiger traps"! My 5 year old said, "Bear traps"! Needless to say my point was not getting across, duh... what was I thinking? Typing it out now I'm LOL but at the time I was frustrated that my kids weren't getting it. So next week my approach is going to be different. More prep time, shorter, and age appropriate. :) Wish me luck!!!

Sooo funny. We get frustrated at FHE at our house as well. My lessons usually last 30 seconds and go fine. Don wants to keep their attention for 5-10 minutes and gets annoyed that they are not listening. At 3 1/2 and 2, all they care about is what game we are going to play for the activity. We are trying to find the balance at our house.
ReplyDeleteROFL! I love love love the Gospel Arts Kit, it makes for a simple and great fhe! Good luck girl!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're so good...what a dedicated Mom, even if it was a little (or a lot!) over their heads! :) We always find such great stories in the Friend that serve as our lesson material for now. I agree with Lee that the GAK makes a great instant lesson and you can make it as long or short as you want. I get the little ones involved by letting him hold the picture while I talk. Most Mondays I'm just glad to have it over with, though!!
